Green Sugar

Green Sugar is a German engineering company developing processes for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into highly pure sugar and other valuable biochemicals. Those products are renewable and biobased, and are an essential building block for the global bioeconomy.

As a platform technology producing sugar, Green Sugar provides the key solution for a world seeking fossil-based alternatives. It serves as the starting point for biobased fermentation products like biopolymers, biofuels, pharmaceuticals, and speciality chemicals – based on renewable, non-edible biomass residues.

Biomass Solutions

A great abundance of lignocellulosic, non-edible biomass ranging from biomass waste in the agricultural as well as forestry sector exists worldwide, especially in the tropical belt but also in high intensity agricultural zones in the Northern and Southern hemisphere. Usually those residual biomass feedstocks are used for energy production or processed to animal feed.

Technology

The Green Sugar process uses a pre-treatment of the biomass feedstock followed by a two-step acid hydrolysis, which enables the separation of all types of lignocellulosic biomass into its main fractions glucose derived from cellulose, monomeric hemicellulose sugars (xylose, arabinose, mannose, galactose) and lignin.
